Dorothy Perkins AW14 Style Essentials: The Fur - Amy

Fur Coat c/o Dorothy Perkins, Blazer c/o Dorothy Perkins, Shorts c/o Dorothy Perkins, H&M Roll Neck Jersey, Dorothy Perkins Stripey Tee, Topshop Sunglasses, Primark Bag, Topshop Jolie Boots

As if our luck would have it, the second Style Essential we have been asked to style for the Dorothy Perkins AW14 campaign is The Fur. Where I see the shirt as a firm staple, the fur is definitely a statement that you need for the colder months. Whether it's stoles, cuffs or a full blown technicolour coat, there is something that just oozes glamour when it comes to fur (faux though, please)

The fur coat has been one of those pieces that I've always dreamt of having, but have never managed to find the right one at the right time so I cannot thank DP enough for finally uniting me with a piece I have had in my mind and on my wishlist for a good few years. The mink colour is the perfect alternative to your usual cream (for all the coffee spillers out there, like me) the fur is delicately soft and the length of the coat is precisely perfect - all in all, dream coat right here.

Now I'm in possession of this coat, it is killing me that the weather has done yet another dramatic U-turn and it's far too hot to wear! Only in England could you get away with an outfit containing a fur coat and shorts. I chose to wear the coat draped over a shorts suit for this particular post though as I wanted to show you how to add that touch of glam into what would be an 'every day/work wear' ensemble. We all know we can chuck a fur coat over a sexy frock and look wonderful, but why can't be look wonderful on the tube at 8am on a Monday morning too? With this coat being under £70, the answer is, we all can ;)

Dorothy Perkins AW14 Style Essentials: The Shirt - Amy

White Blouse c/o Dorothy Perkins, Indigo Harper Jeans c/o Dorothy Perkins, Black Patent Clutch c/o Dorothy Perkins, Missguided Sleeveless Trench, Ray Ban Wayfarer, Topshop Floral Shirt, Zara Asymmetric Pointed Flats

Some of you may remember that we took part in Dorothy Perkins SS14 Style Essentials Campaign (here and here) and we are over the moon to announce that they have asked us back to do their AW14 Campaign too. I most definitely in team AW when it comes to styling, infact the one thing I can't stand in the summer is style, so I was excited to see what Style Essentials we'd be asked to play with.

Firstly, we were asked to style The Shirt - hallelujah, this is probably my signature 'piece' and most definitely a style essential to me, never mind Dorothy Perkins! I eat, sleep and breathe in shirts and have done since my college days, even with my ever changing wardobe, my shirt collection just grows and grows. Clean crisp white collars to a very scary amount of (ex)boyfriend check shirts, I've got it, and I loveee it.

So, it seems I love the shirt so much, I had to wear two. The best thing about shirts are their layering capabilites - under/over, top/bottom, or simply tied round the middle, they do just about everything. I chose to style two very contrasting shirts so layered a delicate cream blouse over a dark patterened button up so they could each stand out against the other. To make the shirt(s) the real focus in this outfit, I chose to go with a simple and staple pair of jeans, a sleeveless mac and black finishing touches.

Going into Autumn means those wintery printed blouses can come out to play and look great layered up with knitwear and coats. AKA have amazing prints and so much so me and Amy fell in love with the same shirt in different prints which we thought would make a great post!

I clashed the prints and styled it up with this AMAZING Beyond Retro vintage Pendleton jacket which has the best print ever on it. I love the long length and oversized shape and think it’s such a statement jacket. I thought it looked great with the shirt and a little mini skirt. The boots are absolutely fab from Daniel Footwear and I know they will be a godsend for the colder months with tights and cute winter dresses! Accessorised the look with my new Stella McCartney sunnies from Red Hot sunglasses which I thought added a touch of chic to this smart-casual look and my new Pauls Boutique slouchy black bag which is such a good shape and size to fit in all my daily essentials.

How are you transitioning into AW and what’s your Autumn essential?
